Dare To Care: Writing for Teens
An in-depth analysis of how to effectively write for teens, analyze youth markets, learn what editors want, and tackle tough topics. This is an 8 week, fully mentored course with extensive assignments, communication and critiques from author and instructor, Laura Farrar. This course is available for purchase at any time--you choose when your consecutive eight weeks begin. Purchasing this course will give you access to course discussion boards, weekly appointments and various means of communication with a published author. There is weekly graded homework and a final project in each course, in addition to reading suggestions and enrichment activities. At the end of the course, if you pass the course with a letter grade of A, B, or C, you will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.
Major topics covered in this course include:
1. Researching & analyzing teen markets.
2. Building relationships with editors and using theme lists/current needs to your advantage.
3. Using technology to further expand your ministry and career.
4. Evaluating the appropriate use of "tough topics" like sex, swearing and addictions.
5. Finding hot topics in youth culture by listening to teens & practicing your art.
Whether you're a beginning, intermediate or advanced writer, this course will help you break into teen markets with relevant manuscripts and a professional decorum. Launching Your Writing Journey: an overview course for young writers
Recommended for ages 10-25, this course will provide a safe place to explore creativity and help young writers learn about the writing craft, develop their unique skills, and pursue publication while being mentored by an experienced writer. This is an 8 week, fully mentored course with extensive assignments, communication and critiques from author and instructor, Laura Farrar. This course is available for purchase at any time--you choose when your consecutive eight weeks begin. Purchasing this course will give you access to course discussion boards, weekly appointments and various means of communication with a published author. There is weekly graded homework and a final project in each course, in addition to reading suggestions and enrichment activities. 1. The basic business of writing: freelancing, careers, education, etc.
2. The creative process, art of ideas, journaling and brainstorming.
3. How to effectively use Writer's Market.
4. How to craft a basic cover and query letter.

6. Unique challenges facing young writers: market exclusions, pay rates, and professionalism.
Students will learn to identify genres that they excel at through exploring fiction, poetry, and articles with plenty of feedback. Whether your goals are to become a professional writer, or simply to expand and enrich your skills, this course is for you!
