Laura N. Farrar writes and speaks to restore broken hearts and shattered dreams. Passionate about writing, reading, music, nature, graphic design, animals and mental health issues, Laura seeks to combine her interests into a powerful ministry to young people. Her goal is to impact children and teens with a message of love and hope through Jesus Christ. Her life-long mission is to reach out to hurting and broken teens and help them find their way into God’s presence.
Laura began writing poetry, short fiction, personal experience articles, devotionals and reviews at an early age and was first published at age 16. Over the years, she's learned to balance academics, work, health issues and writing. Her journey through mental illness as a teen is the basis for her passion and much of her writing. By sharing her pain, joys, and struggles, Laura hopes to shine a light that can guide hurting adolescents to healing.
Healing for her own heart came after years of struggling with difficulties like depression and self-injury. By the grace of God she has rediscovered the joy Jesus Christ brings to life and lives to share the message of hope and freedom.
The passion to help teens led Laura to found Dancing In The Rain Foundation, which encompasses her writing, speaking, and counseling ministry. She dreams of opening a local Teen Crisis Center where help, support and healing can happen right when it's needed most.
FAQ:
Q: When were you first published?
A: My poem, “For Keeps”, was published in Skipping Stones Magazine, in January 2005. I was sixteen years old.
Q: How many rejection letters did you receive before your first acceptance?
A: I had gotten 30 rejections in all, but that poem had only been rejected once before Skipping Stones accepted it.
Q: Is it easy to get published?
A: Yes and no. It’s possible if you persistently send a needed, polished manuscript to appropriate markets. That’s the hard part, marketing and submitting. Lots of people can write great material--you just need to know how and where to send it. A writer’s group can help with editing and market suggestions. Submitting is made easier when you use the current year of Writer’s Market, and Sally Stuart’s Christian Writers’ Market Guide. You can find those books at your local bookstore or library. To any aspiring writer, I say this: Keep writing, keep learning, and keep submitting--you’ll get into print in God’s time.
